Banqueting House Plus River Cruise

Combine a visit to splendid Banqueting House with a river cruise leaving from nearby Westminster pier.

Banqueting House is the only surviving part of the grand Palace of Whitehall, with the rest of the palace being destroyed by fire in 1698.

This revolutionary building, the first in England to be designed in a Palladian style by Inigo Jones and completed in 1622, was intended for the splendour and exuberance of court masques. The Banqueting House is probably most famous for one real life drama: the execution of Charles I which took place here in 1649 to the ‘dismal, universal groan’ of the crowd.

One of Charles’s last sights as he walked through the Banqueting House to his death was the magnificent ceiling paintings by Sir Peter Paul Rubens painted between 1630 and 1634.

Admission to Banqueting House includes hidden, history talks – a range of short talks daily at 11.30hrs with palace experts. Banqueting House is a short walk from Westminster pier (approx. 10 minutes).

Your ticket includes:

  • Hop-on Hop-off all day sightseeing cruise ticket
  • Entrance to Banqueting House
