National Maritime Museum With River Cruise

Buy a 24 hour hop-on, hop-off river pass and use it to visit Royal Museums Greenwich, including the National Maritime Museum which tells of our island nation’s going out upon the seas and oceans.

Housed in a fine building near a big park and other attractive museums it’s a great place to visit and see the ships, sailors, heroes and people of the past.

Kids will find the children’s gallery, ship simulator, and character guides all fun.

Sea and art fanatics will find a lot to delve into as the museum collections hold more than 2.5 million items, including ship models, stirring paintings , guns and swords, archive photography and much more.

The National Maritime Museum tells many stories, though is (probably) strongest on the period 1688-1815 when Britain turned from a nation on the edge of Europe into a global superpower.

The Nelson, Navy & Nation gallery explores how the Royal Navy shaped everyday lives as it became a central part of society and turned sea-faring heroes into national celebrities in this critical period. Two top tips from a previous visitor? Check out the gilded passenger boat from when the River Thames was a favourite highway for royals; and go out by the Greenwich park exit to see the giant, modern ship-in-a bottle.
